We’ve been in the insurance industry for 40+ years, and we’ve seen what can happen if businesses don’t have general liability coverage or have inadequate coverage. You’ve worked hard to build your business, and the right insurance policy can help protect it.

Let’s talk about your options for general liability coverage.

General Liability Insurance: Frequently Asked Questions

What is general liability insurance?

General liability insurance protects your business from financial losses due to property damage, bodily injury, or personal injury caused by your business, your products, or your employees. It covers things like damage you cause to a client’s property, someone getting injured at your place of business, or things like libel, slander, and copyright infringement.

It’s a critical policy for Oklahoma contractors working on client property and businesses who interact with the public in some way, including consulting companies.

The short answer is YES! While there may be a few businesses here and there who don’t need a general liability insurance policy, most businesses do. It’s one of the best policies to protect your business from financial losses due to property damage or bodily injury. Many Oklahoma contractors are required to show a certificate of insurance when working with other companies.

If you’ve been in business and have an existing policy, you will need to request a loss run report from your current company. The new insurance company will typically need to see a three-year loss run to underwrite your coverage.

General liability insurance doesn’t cover employee injuries, professional mistakes, or damage to your business property. Each of those categories is covered with its own type of insurance.

Typically a general liability policy would cover Oklahoma contractors if your equipment caused damage to someone or their property, but it doesn’t cover something happening to your equipment, like breakdowns, theft, or vandalism. That’s where contractor’s equipment insurance comes in. Once we know a little more about your business, we can make a recommendation for the types of coverage you need.

How much insurance you need depends on business size, level of risk, and any industry requirements. Companies you work with may have minimum requirements as well. You want to be sure your coverage is enough to protect your business should an issue arise. Insurance companies may audit your business annually to ensure your business numbers align with the premium you are paying.

The best way to determine how much insurance you need is talking with a qualified agent who can ask some questions about your business and talk through your coverage options.
